From a wildlife safari to a business meeting, a well planned trip begins with the right entry permission. Tanzania's official e-Visa service lets eligible travelers submit an application online before departure. The visa category and requirements depend on your nationality and the purpose of your visit.
Start at the official portal
Use visa.immigration.go.tz to read the current guidance, start an application and check its status. Check the address carefully before entering passport details or making a payment. A visa application should be made through the official service, and submitting a form does not mean it has been approved.
Choose the category that matches your trip
An ordinary visa is used for eligible short visits such as tourism or visiting family. Other categories, including business, multiple entry and transit visas, have different purposes and conditions. A business visa does not replace permission for long term employment or residence. The transit category is for a traveler passing through Tanzania to another destination under its stated conditions. Read the category guidance before selecting it, and check whether your nationality requires a referral visa or has another entry arrangement.
Prepare the documents requested for your category
The official guidelines require a passport with at least six months of validity and at least one unused visa page. You may also need a passport photograph, itinerary, return or onward travel evidence, an invitation or other supporting document depending on the category. The application itself shows the applicable upload requirements. Ensure the names, dates and passport number match your documents, and use clear scans.
Submit, pay and follow your application
Complete the online form, review your answers, pay through the instructions displayed in the official portal and submit the application. Keep your application ID and payment reference. Use the portal's status checker for updates. If approved, follow the instructions on the Visa Grant Notice and carry a copy that you can present while traveling. Processing times vary, so apply well before your planned departure and avoid relying on a last minute approval.
At the point of entry
Carry the passport used for the application, your Visa Grant Notice and any supporting travel documents relevant to your visit. Follow the directions at the designated entry point and answer the immigration officer's questions accurately. A visa grant does not remove the normal entry checks at the border. Confirm the period and conditions of stay given to you, and seek guidance from the Immigration Service Department before your permission expires if your plans change.
