A short business assignment starts with the correct immigration permission.
Tanzania’s Business Visa is intended for specific, lawful short-term assignments—not open-ended employment or residence. It may cover activities such as machine repair, short professional training, auditing, feasibility studies, professional assignments, establishing business contacts and making arrangements during the start-up stage of an investment.
Technical repair and other specialist assignments must remain within the approved short-term purpose.
The visa is valid for a maximum of 90 days and is issued for a single entry. If the holder leaves Tanzania, the same visa cannot be used to return. It is not a substitute for a Residence Permit; where the activity may continue beyond three months, the appropriate Work and Residence Permit route should be followed.
Short-term training is one of the activities that may fall within a Business Visa.
Prepare before applying
An applicant should have a passport valid for at least six months with an unused visa page, a return ticket, and a work contract or other proof of the assignment showing that it will not exceed three months. The current official Business Visa fee is USD 250.
Audits, feasibility studies and investment start-up arrangements require clear proof of the assignment.
Apply through the official Tanzania eVisa portal and select the visa category that matches the real purpose of travel. Choosing the wrong visa type or failing to provide the required supporting documents may lead to rejection. A visa grant notice also does not remove the entry checks conducted by an Immigration Officer at the point of entry.
When the activity may exceed three months, seek guidance on the appropriate Work and Residence Permits.
